Cummer Park Community Center Youth Program
In 2001 Colin was part of the construction and planning of the Cummer Community Center Skateboard Park. He had written to the city councilor and the letter was acknowledged and thus was granted permission to proceed. Colin and his peers took the initiative at the age of 15 to design the park and lead the engineers to build with his perspective in mind. Colin attended many meetings where staff was present and showed leadership skills when called upon. Colin provided changes and ideas that impacted the creation of the skateboard park the way it is today. When the skateboard park was built in 2001 and opened to the public Colin made a speech along with David Shiner the city councillor. Colin was selected to say the speech due to the strong leadership role he led throughout the planning process.
With the excellent leadership skills that Colin had displayed, he was hired to the position of youth leader for a new youth program that was initiated in 2001. Since that time Colin has organized events for the youth, outreached to different groups of youth in the community, and set an example for his staff and patrons as a supervisor of the program. Colin to date has accumulated a combined 805 hours of part time work since 2001. Colin has displayed and showed over time dedicated leadership to the youth program and is always setting new goals every year to make the program better and more diverse.
